The other day I was reading a blog. (sorry I am not 100% sure which one it was off the top of my head, I am addicted to quite a few). This blogger was talking about a free-lance job she got and in doing so she got to ride around with a Detroit Cop. The blog of that day basically talks about how the Cop talks all about how Detroit is on a downward spiral, going nowhere fast. Very FAST in fact. At the very end of her blogging she linked to an article. Curiosity getting the best of me - I clicked the link and then clicked another link that in the end brought me to a series of pictures of Detroit. Run Down Detroit. Car Factory's - empty, Amazing Buildings - empty.
And then...she caught my eye.
The Michigan Theater.
What once was an amazing Theater, filled with music, shows and millions of peoples talent...
now holds....Cars. Yes Cars.
I have a minor in Interior Design, and Design and Architecture has always been my "thing." I could look through books on buildings and design for hours. And it tore me up inside to see this beautiful building made into a parking ramp.
I guess amazing buildings, aren't as amazing to people anymore. And in order to make a buck, people are willing to do just about anything. Now I know that the Theater wasn't making money at the very end of its REAL life, but you would think we could make it into something more than just a parking ramp. A museum of sorts, or even a fantastic restaurant, or club (reading into a little more, I do believe it was movie theater and a club at one point).
I don't quite no where this blog is going, besides airing my torn-ness about beautiful buildings in the end getting the "shaft" so to speak. The building has Character and Fancy, if only someone could find it!

Oh my goodness, I totally agree that that is just devastating. Where is the world coming to? If people don't even care about these buildings that say so much about history and even in the very least are simply gorgeous, then what do they care about? That may seem a little petty, but it's just so sad to see these gorgeous masterpieces of buildings fall into ruin or be reused as something that basically equates them to trash. Okay, I'm done ranting, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

my goodness that is a beautiful building! The ceiling is breathtaking! It is a bit sad to see it used as a car park now...
